Gusty winds prompt health caution

Gusty winds prompt health caution

Blowing dust in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, and the valley portion of Kern counties poses potential health concern

Local air pollution officials are issuing a health cautionary statement effective through Wednesday night, May 22, 2013, because of blowing dust resulting from gusty winds. The health caution is in effect for San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, and the valley portion of Kern counties.

Winds may produce areas of localized dust, which can result in unhealthy concentrations of particulate matter 10 microns and smaller (PM10). Exposure to particulate pollution can cause serious health problems, aggravate lung disease, trigger asthma attacks and bronchitis, and increase risk of respiratory infections.

A Treat for Skin (and taste buds!)

Summer brings warm, sunny days and berries in abundance! Does anyone else wait all year to scarf down nature’s good-for-you, sweet snacks by the handful – or is it just me?

As a natural beauty devotee, the line is constantly blurred between food I want to eat and food I want to put on my skin. Whenever I make a mask at home with delicious, healthy ingredients I end up licking it out of the mixing bowl and sometimes off my face, too!

So I gave in and created one scrumptious, berry-filled, all-natural, skin-beneficial recipe to be both a facial treatment and a healthy treat - that’s actually easy and fast to make.

Meet the Summer Berry Beauty Parfait!

South Stockton Neighborhood Celebrates Healthy Corner Store Conversion Saturday

South Stockton Neighborhood Celebrates Healthy Corner Store Conversion Saturday

Community organizations and agencies including the Network for a Healthy California (Network), and Community Partnership for Families of San Joaquin/Dorothy L. Jones Family Resource Center have continued to work together with the neighborhood corner store, M & M Market, to improve access and availability to healthier food and drink choices for the surrounding community. Corner stores are critical in the battle against obesity, particularly among low-income Californians who are at greater risk.

The community is encouraged to come and see what is being done and can be done at neighborhood markets to improve food and drink options that support healthier lifestyles. The celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 11am to noon, at the M & M Market, 1804 E 8th Street, Stockton, CA 95206.

Tune in TONIGHT to 'Fighting Lung Cancer: A Woman's Inspiration'

Tune in TONIGHT to 'Fighting Lung Cancer: A Woman's Inspiration'

Increasingly, more and more people who’ve never smoked a day in their life are being diagnosed with lung cancer. And while lung cancer causes more deaths annually than any other form of cancer, if caught early, recovery is at its best.

News 10 and Mercy Cancer Institute of Greater Sacramento invite you to tune in to a special half-hour segment “Fighting Lung Cancer: A Woman’s Inspiration” Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m.

You will be introduced to local women, all non-smokers, who were diagnosed with lung cancer incidentally, and learn about the movement that seeks to screen and catch lung cancer early—for the best possible treatment outcomes.

Again, this show airs Thursday, November 29, at 7:30pm on News10.  You won't want to miss it!
